Portions of King Street to close for tree pruning

BRUCE ASATO / BASATO@STARADVERTISER.COM

A bicycle rider in the bicycle lane slowed to a stop at the intersection of S. King and Piikoi streets on Feb. 21. Over the next two months, the bike lanes and portions of South King Street from Alapai Street through University Avenue will be closed while a private contractor prunes shower trees.

Over the next two months, the bike lanes and portions of South King Street from Alapai Street through University Avenue will be closed while a private contractor prunes shower trees.

The contractor will prune low-hanging branches above traffic lanes, branches affecting buildings, and branches creating sightline concerns. Work will be conducted between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The right and left turn and parking lanes and the King Street bike lane will experience periodic closures; car and bike traffic will be re-routed into open lanes. The contractor will re-open lanes as work is completed.

This work started yesterday (3/9). FYI the parking lane is gone since it’s been transformed into a temporary vehicular lane.

With Beretania under repair, now King St. how do we get around. All of us on Young? Maybe some planning would be of benefit?

What is happening to Honolulu? Over-development, traffic, homeless, dilapidated infrastructure, high taxes, and of course RAIL. we need new leadership but I won’t bet on it happening.

The no parking signs (since blown down by the winds) have been up for about a week now on S. King near Washington Middle School. Haven’t seen any tree trimming yet. Is there a reason why the no parking signs have to go up so soon?
