The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for north and west shores of most Hawaiian islands until 6 a.m. Monday.

A long-period north-northwest swell will result in hazardous surf along north- and west-facing shores.

The swell is expected to bring advisory-level surf tonight and gradually lower on Monday and Tuesday.

North and west shores of Kauai and Niihau and north shores of Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island can expect surf of 10 to 15 feet, forecasters said.

Strong breaking waves and shore break can make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers are advised to exercise caution and heed all advice given by Ocean Safety officials.
