Woman rescued after getting swept out to sea near Waikiki
A 50-year-old woman who went swimming Saturday night in Waikiki, was swept out to sea and had to spend the night in the ocean until she was rescued the following morning mile off Keehi Lagoon.
The woman told responders she went swimming between 9 and 10 p.m. Saturday, in the Waikiki area and was taken out to sea by the current.
At 11:20 a.m., Sunday, the Navatek I, a tour boat, spotted the woman in distress near Keehi Lagoon.
A 45-foot Coast Guard boat picked her up at 11:30 a.m.
She was taken to Kewalo Basin Harbor where she was turned over to paramedics. The swimmer reportedly appeared in good condition and declined any medical services.

Went for a dip at 10 PM and found the following morning at around 11. Seems questionable she was in the water over 12 hours. She sure is lucky she is still alive? Good karma!
I think this truly is a “story” spun by this woman. Any body fact check or corroborate this?? 1) “Swept out to sea” …exactly how? 2) Between Waikiki and Keehi lagoon there are ample and easy places to get out. 3) The NAVATEK doesn’t normally cruise Keehi Lagoon and that further complicates the credibility of this story. 4) There are just too many places where she could have easily swam to shore, easily, instead of drifting all the way down the coast.
Best no to swim at night
Given the over-crowded conditions in Waikiki, night time is probably the only time there is decent space to actually swim.
Night SCUBA diving however, when done by people who are properly trained and with correct safety precautions is really beautiful. You get to see all the creatures who are asleep during the day.
dumb dumb
she’s tough
Good job Coast Guard!! Knucklehead, 50 year old woman swimming alone at 10pm offshore far enough to lose the ability to swim to shore. What was she thinking? It’s not your backyard swimming pool…
agree..but people do silly things
…but she was able to tread water for 12 hours until she was rescued? Does not make sense.
that’s what i say…
Lucky jaws wasn’t hungry.
Ditto!
She went, but she survived.
When I swim I always carry two condoms. I learned to do this this in Air Force Survival School. “Industrial strength” Trojans. Think “water wings”. Condoms were a standard part of my T-10 parachute. “Canteens”?
Har har har hahahahahaha!!!!!
Remember those fat moke life guards who taught us swimming at the YMCA pool? I was amazed how fat can float. It is less dense than water so a fatty can actually sleep floating. How tall was this gal and her weight?
