Big Isle couple face theft charges after police spot them in stolen SUV
A Big Island man and woman will appear in Hilo District Court today to face charges of stealing a vehicle from a Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna.
Kimo Oberle, 22, of of Hilo and Keahi Javine, 18, of Keaau, were arrested for allegedly taking a Toyota 4Runner Saturday from 19th Avenue.
On Monday, police spotted the Toyota on Saddle Road and followed it to Hilo, where a man and a woman fled the vehicle.
The vehicle was then recovered.
Oberle was charged with auto theft. His bail was set at $2,000.
Javine was charged with burglary, auto theft and unauthorized possession of personal confidential information. Her bail was set at $9,000.
