We need to take better care of our visitors. Warning them of the dangers from video on airplanes and brochures from the hotels. She must have rented or was loaned the snorkeling equipment so should have been told the don’ts of where she was to snorkel.

Unfortunately many Mainlanders, and probably others, leave common sense at home when they arrive in the Islands. Much of the environment is hostile and should be respected as such. Such an unfortunate incident. Your comment is a caring comment and appreciated.

“should have been told the don’ts of where she was to snorkel” — um, how about “Don’t snorkel in any water, as it presents a drowning hazard”? If people don’t realize the ocean ALWAYS presents a drowning hazard, there’s not much a warning could have done.
