UH baseball wins first game of doubleheader
Kyle Von Ruden tossed a three-hit shutout and Hawaii clinched the series with a 5-0 win over UC Davis today in the first game of a doubleheader at Dobbins Stadium in Davis, Calif.
Von Ruden (5-1) won his fourth straight start and tossed his second complete game in three weeks for the Rainbow Warriors (15-15, 4-1 Big West), who temporarily moved into a tie for first place in conference with Cal State Fullerton.
Eric Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Matt LoCoco singled and scored twice for UH.
Justin Mullins (0-3) allowed six hits and two runs in seven innings with seven strikeouts to take the loss for the Aggies (8-17, 1-4).
Von Ruden retired the final 15 batters of the game. He walked one and struck out three and has now lasted at least seven innings in seven straight starts.
UH will go for the series sweep in the second game of the doubleheader that will start at noon Hawaii time.
