Brush fire near Hawaii Kai Golf Course reported under control
A two-acre brush fire near Hawaii Kai Golf Course was under control this afternoon.
Firefighters responded to an area near the 13th hole about 3;50 p.m., according to a Fire Department spokesman. The fire was under control at 5:01 p.m.
Police contraflowed traffic on Kalanianaole Highway near Sandy Beach while firefighters battle the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fred Hardy, who was driving in the area, said it appeared the fire was near the wastewater treatment plant.
“It was a lot of smoke, but it was all blowing to the ocean,” he said.
