Man convicted in King Kamehameha statue spear tip theft

HILO >> A man has been convicted of taking the spear tip from the statue of King Kamehameha in September.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports jurors convicted William Roy Carroll III of theft and property damage Friday after a two-week trial.

Carroll had previously rejected a plea deal.

He could be sentenced to five years in prison.

Deputy Public Defender Patrick Munoz argued that the case against his client was built on incomplete circumstantial evidence.

Deputy Prosecutor Haaheo Kahoohalahala said Carroll stole a chain and used it to break off the spear tip. She argued Carroll hid the spear and didn’t intend to return it unless there was a reward.

Carroll remains in custody and is charged in a separate case.

The statue’s spear has been repaired.

“I think it’s justice for the victims and justice for the community,” said Deputy Prosecutor Haaheo Kahoohalahala.
Where is the “justice” for the 10s of thousands of Polynesians killed by Kamehameha I with British guns and cannon in order to steal all the Islands for himself?
Worshiping a stone cold killer is not part of William’s mindset, being from Oahu and knowing of the mass slaughter that took place there at the hands of Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kauʻi Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea and his army of killers armed unfairly with a technological advantage.
The spear, should really be replaced with a musket to be historically accurate.
Search: ( Herb Kane, “Lookout painting”). This was the last act of Kamehameha’s ruthless killing spree on Oahu forcing the last gasp group of men and woman to jump to their deaths from the Pali.
Where is the “justice” for them Haaheo?

  6. Chris458 says:

I don’t know about a possible 5 year sentence, but he better pay up for a 2 week trial for that nonsense!

  7. krusha says:

They should use the ancient Hawaiian way of punishment on this guy and use him for spear practice.
