Idaho father takes pregnant teen daughter to marry rapist

ST. ANTHONY, Idaho » An Idaho man will spend about four months in jail for taking his 14-year-old daughter to Missouri to marry a 24-year-old man who raped and impregnated her.

The father pleaded guilty to injury to a child last week, and a judge put him behind bars for 120 days and ordered four years of supervised probation, the Idaho State Journal reported.

“I would note that the 120 days is approximately how long this vile farce of a marriage lasted,” Seventh District Judge Gregory Moeller told him at the sentencing. “While you sit in jail, you will sit and think about the 120 days your daughter was in a vile farce of a marriage to a rapist because of you.”

The Associated Press does not generally identify victims of sexual abuse and is withholding the name of the father and man involved in the marriage to avoid identifying the girl.

The father believed that a man should marry a girl he gets pregnant and picked a state where 14-year-olds can legally wed, according to court documents. He told the judge that he loved his daughter and would never intentionally harm her but acknowledged making a bad decision.

“Clearly, your daughter underwent great bodily harm based on some of your choices,” Moeller told the girl’s father.

The girl and the man lived together for four months. The teen miscarried, and when she returned to Idaho, her mother filed for an annulment, officials said.

The 24-year-old was sentenced in April to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony rape. He must serve three years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.

I’m not sure what bothers me more, the fact that the poor girl was forced to marry the man who raped her or that 14 yr. olds are allowed to marry in Missouri.

3 years behind bars – less for good behavior.

I just don’t get it.. I really can not understand some peoples minds.

In this day and age and all of the information and help and 911 that we have why did this “father” think this was the right thing? Most fathers would be with a shot gun to the kill the guy for the rape instead he did a shot gun wedding.

In 1880, the usual age of consent was 10. In Delaware, it was 7. Mores have changed a lot. Some parents would set the age of consent much higher than it is now.

Every school kid that studies Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” eventually learns that Juliet was just 13 years old. Anyone fond of traditional European or Scots-Irish-English folk songs and ballads will come away with the impression that 14 years for a girl was a proper age to wed. So it was for boys; listen to the Joan Baez rendition of “The Trees They Do Grow High” to understand what the accepted marriageable age was in 18th century Britain.

Been in this world a long time and thought I’ve either seen or heard it all!! Whoa! This story makes me feel like an inadequately novice person in an abnormally sophisticated world!

What father who loves his daughter wouldn’t allow her rapist to marry her? DUH, do I hear dueling banjo in the background?

Three years minimum for the rape of a child amounts to another rape of that innocent child. That man should have been given a higher minimum. And her father should b given that amount as his minimum for making such an outrageous decision.

    From other sources:

“Strawn knew his daughter had been a victim of statutory rape, the prosecutor said.”

“The girl and the man reportedly told family members they wanted to be married,”

“Seaton admitted to having a sexual relationship with the underaged girl and getting her pregnant.”

It appears this story is not as dramatic as the article implies. He was guilty of having sex with an underage girl, not rape in the unqualified sense of the word.

Hard to determine fact from fiction. Part of the problem is that the news people write it up to get people to read their rag. Unfortunate that the AP story is written up with the intention of saying that the guy raped and impregnated her. If it was more that the girl and the man were in cahoots then it is a different story although he still did commit a crime (statutory rape) to many of us.

My fellow Americans, that Father and Mother, are true Red-Necks from one of the Bible Belt State’s, and probably are members of the KKK (aka) the Krap-Krap-Krap Adolph Hitler’s worshipers. Donald Dump will truly get their votes.
