Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, right, and Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, left, argue while being separated by Channing Frye (9) during the second half of Game 4 of basketball’s NBA Finals in Cleveland, Friday.

OAKLAND, Calif.>> Golden State star Draymond Green was suspended for Game 5 of the NBA Finals after the league assessed a Flagrant 1 foul from his scuffle with Cleveland’s LeBron James.

The NBA announced the retroactive decision today, issuing James a technical on the play late in Golden State’s 108-97 victory Friday during which the two tussled and exchanged words.

Green has been on the cusp of trouble for much of the postseason. This is his fourth flagrant foul point, which resulted in the automatic suspension. He also has five technicals and was fined $25,000 for kicking Oklahoma City’s Steven Adams in the groin during the Western Conference finals.

The Warriors lead the series 3-1 with a chance to clinch their second straight championship at home in Oracle Arena.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke to Green earlier in the postseason about keeping his emotions in check, and now Golden State will have a big hole to fill without him.

Green is averaging 15.3 points this postseason — third-most on the team behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson — and a team-leading 9.6 rebounds along with nearly six assists.

Green called Friday’s incident “stuff that’s said on the court.” Yet James considered it all inappropriate and said he and his teammates reviewed the sequence on video.

“Draymond just said something that I don’t agree with,” James said. “I’m all cool with the competition. I’m all fine with that, but some of the words that came out of his mouth were a little bit overboard, and being a guy with pride, a guy with three kids and a family, things of that nature, some things just go overboard.”

As his teammates went through shooting drills near the end of Sunday’s workout, Green could be seen off to the side speaking to Warriors general manager Bob Myers before returning to practice.

NBA or WWF? Either way the fix is in . . .

LeBron can be a very big baby, too.

From having watched this game, I can see that LeBron is an instigator in these situations. In the Green situation he actually walked over Green which is a show of domination in many male sports. It’s akin to stepping over a down opponent. In another situation within the same game, Curry can be seen being pushed around by LeBron and Curry appeared to be reacting in surprise at LeBron’s behavior. LeBron does move aggressively on the court and it’s not surprising that the physical result of these moves are overlooked by referees. LeBron and his coach will complain but the fact is, his physically aggressive play style will get that kind of reaction. Now, I am not a fan of Green’s play style but LeBron’s is not exactly exemplary by the looks of the way he played in Game 4. Curry’s reaction to LeBron on the other hand shows just why he is popular among sports fans. He plays with intensity despite his relatively smaller size (in comparison with the brutes such as LeBron) but with class. I do hope that Curry and company overcome LeBron and his cohorts.

No one forced Green to take a swing. He did so of his own volition so he pays the price. Foolish and selfish move on his part considering he knew his precarious flagrant foul status.

LeBron should be suspended too for his actions.
the warriors defense got LeBron frustrated.

  4. Pali_Hwy says:

Totally wrong. NBA should lose its antitrust protection. This is clearly manipulation to get 6 or 7 games.

  5. DownSpout says:

Green is a punk, and a consensus dirty player.

You really should put a REPORT BUTTON on your comment board. One poster here has used a term for the male genital in an offensive manner. Such comments are not appreciated on a board that is read by family as well as children.

This might be over tomorrow; Golden State is red hot!

  8. ready2go says:

This hurts the Warriors. A tremendously gifted athlete but needs to attend anger management classes.

  9. 808comp says:

What a bummer. I still think Warriors will win, maybe not in 5 but in 6.

The NBA becoming WWE…protect the super stars and create drama with the other players. Why didn’t pracious James not get thrown out for stepping over Green? Truth is NBA pays the officials to get to game 6 and 7 for revenue. The protection of the untouchables make the NBA nothing more than wrestling.

yep, lebron just another princess being shown favor by the league. in a court of law, you wouldn’t be able to prove that green intentionally went for the balls. green should be able to appeal the ruling and deal with it later like brady did. something so petty shouldn’t be allowed to affect the championship series. now doctored footballs,,, that’s another story.

  11. Pacificsports says:

Would be more concerned if the players acted as if they didn’t gave a darn while playing for the Championship.

  12. tsboy says:

bunch of BS. the fix is in. this is why i got no respect for Lebron. the guy knocks people around and then cries when he gets hit.

Yes, this is why a lot of sports fan do not like James. He always open his mouth for criticism. (1) Remember, not 1, not 2, not 3, etc to not 7 and he so far won only 2, (2) Just because I have a high basket ball IQ, I am not going to keep my mouth shut to overriding coach Blatt play calling, (3) My style of play allow Kevin to shoot the 3’s and allow Kyrie I to drive to the basket, (4) His tatoo say “The Chosen One” etc.

    • roughrider says:

It wasn’t Green’s double-slap to the genitals that angered LeBron. It’s when Green called him a “b—-” after they pushed each other under the basket that ignited the pushing and shoving. LeBron didn’t even address the slap to the genitals in the press conference. His issue with Green was his use of the “b” word. Not a LeBron or Cavs fan, just wanted to set the record straight.

What is it with Green’s obsession with guy’s crotches?

  14. Ripoff says:

    lol Dray’s kinda whiny
