Authorities clear Waianae beach after unexploded ordnance found

Police and firefighters have begun to ask people to leave the beach area near Makua cave this morning after unexploded ordnance was discovered 15 yards offshore.

Authorities were establishing an evacuation radius of 1,600 feet.

The fire department was summoned at 9:30 a.m. following a call to 911 just after 8:30 a.m.

The ordnance was reported to be about one mile west of Makua cave.

    I believe the story should have said SUSPECTED unexploded ordnance found. It could be a dummy or training round. We will know when the EOD people do their thing.
