Firefighters suspend search for last missing fisherman off Haleiwa

The Coast Guard and the Navy searched for three missing fishermen reported overdue off Oahu’s North Shore. Missing is 30-year-old Jensen Loo, 30-year-old Clint Oshima and 30-year-old Derek Tomas. Their 20-foot fishing vessel Iwa, was spotted overturned by the Coast Guard approximately 25 miles off Haleiwa Boat Harbor on July 4.
The Kauai Fire Department has suspended its search for one of three fishermen who went missing July 3 in waters off Oahu’s North Shore.
Firefighters conducted another aerial search today but did not find any evidence of the man.
Jensen Loo, Clint Oshima and Derek Thomas, all 30, left Haleiwa Boat Harbor on July 3 in the 20-foot vessel Iwa. They were reported missing that evening.
On July 4 the Coast Guard spotted the Iwa overturned about 25 miles off the harbor.
Two bodies, believed to be those of the other two fishermen, were recovered off Kauai on Friday. An overturned vessel was also spotted in the vicinity of one of the bodies.
Autopsies will be performed on the two recovered bodies on Tuesday.

More in depth journalism from SA. Did they have life jackets? Were they found together? Any other floating debris (coolers?) Anything else you can tell public, might be a learning opportunity for everyone.
Wonder if their going to tow that boat in, maybe the third body is in that boat.
When the boat was spotted off Haleiwa, divers were sent down to view the over turned boat nothing was found.
There is no intent to retrieve the capsized boat off of Kauai, even though it appears to be similar to the one the lost boaters/fishermen were using. Why?
Kauai Fire Department or any Fire Department are not salvage operators. Initially that boat was being towed by another boat when it was near Haleiwa. That boat sank attempting to tow that boat into shore. Towing a vessel is best left to the experts like salvage operators.
Doesn’t the overturned boat pose a hazard? Some government agency should do something about the boat. Either sink it or get it back to shore.
We had a lot of debris in the water after the Japan tsunami. Boats, shipping containers all drifting out to sea. even marine life able to capsize a small boat. Going out to sea poses a risk, and there are many hazards. Like I said a salvage company would be best qualified to retrieve this boat but they need to get paid. Otherwise unless it hits a reef then action will be taken.
A tragic story and condolences to family and friends. All were young men. With no mention of particularly rough seas or poor weather conditions or physical limitation. Seems that one or all could have survived the one night in what should have been mild water temperatures. Possibly too dark, no flotation devices or objects to grab onto, or some hurt and all became exhausted trying to help each other.
