I think a better method could have been used to get the car out of the canal. News show that the car was pulled out upside down which must have caused considerable amount of damage to the vehicle.
Gee, maybe you should’a been there to supervise things.
No. A better towing company would have done it better. Don’t need me to supervise. After all, there are people who can recognize when things can be done better and then there are those who don’t know squat.
If the van was in the canal it was already totaled.
kiragirl, I love people with common sense. Once a vehicle goes underwater, it’s a total loss. T-O-T-A-L.
Okay.
On the positive side, the car owner now has an excuse to get new upholstery…now that the car is a total loss. Lol!
Mainland commercial speaks of an insurance company offering car replacement when wrecked?
The extra damage probably doesn’t matter because once a vehicle flips it is considered SALVAGE. Real cheap for new owners and some last forever but a mechanical risk.
But yeah, why drag it like that.
The first paragraph is confusing. How can a van crash into the Ala Wai and then strike a pedestrian? The quality of SA reporters are poor.
Also, simply referring to “the Ala Wai” is incomplete and ambiguous. If they meant the canal, they should say “the Ala Wai Canal”.
Oh, I get it. They meant a swimmer, not a pedestrian. Just joking.
I was thinking the same thing.
It’s the weekend. The B team is on duty.
The B Team “IS” the A Team.
When the Star-Ad starts trimming the newsroom staff (as reported by other media), let’s hope they start with whomever is in charge of online news.
“….a van crashed into the Ala Wai and struck a pedestrian ….” Wow! Walk on water pedestrian, better watch out, God can be vengeful if you hurt His Son! Looks like the voluntary layoffs are already hurting the HSA. Pity. Pitiful.
“and” doesn’t necessarily mean it happened in that order?
Not specifically, but when you’re writing about a series of events it should be placed in consecutive order. The writer chose not to use the adverb “then,” so you leave the reader to assume the actions came in succession.
I mean, you wouldn’t say: A man ran away and robbed a convenience store.
Not disagreeing with you, but I considered that a newspaper may put sensationalism and hype before grammatical convention. But yeah, it’s probably just sloppy writing.
Lol, “a man ran away and robbed a convenience store!” Maybe we’ll see that on America’s Dumbest Criminals.”
But seriously, we’re more likely to see it as an SA article.
Mainland commercial speaks of an insurance company offering car replacement when wrecked? What about the kinds bacteria in the wattah! Ugh, ugh!
I saw it on the news this morning. The vehicle was not a van but a sedan. It also knocked down a light pole on the way into the canal.
So will driver be drug/alcohol tested??
locals have a difficult time driving and controlling autos with wheels and engines.
Especially if they are texting or using their phone while driving! Scary 🙂
