The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified today a 24-year-old Kaneohe man who died after being pulled from the water in Waikiki last week as Gary Thomas.

The cause of his death was deferred pending an investigation, the examiner’s office said.

Police said Thomas collapsed in the water near the shoreline just before 6 p.m. Aug. 25. People in the area pulled him out of the water unresponsive and performed CPR. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police do not suspect foul play.
