Hilo man charged in supermarket robbery

A 23-year-old Hilo man has been charged for allegedly robbing a supermarket.

Ku Manuia has been charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree theft. He is being held in lieu of $5,250 bail.

At 1:23 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a robbery at the store located on Kinoole Street. Manuia allegedly concealed merchandise within his waistband, according to a news release from the Hawaii County Police Department.

He left the store without paying for the items. When an employee, 43, approached Manuia, he kneed the employee in the head. Other store employees apprehended the suspect and police were called.

What, the name of the store is a secret? Is there some problem with being able to say “KTA”?

    • Wankine says:

It might have been CostULess, which also has a location on Kinoole. The idiot would have gotten off with a shoplifting charge if he hadn’t kneed the employee. Even so, the $5K bail is ridiculously low for a violent offense. Typical Big Island lack of consequences for crime!

Don’t rush…KTA is located off Puainako St between Kanoelehua & Kilauea Ave, not Kinoole St. FYI

Just another example of stellar reporting by SA. What is so hard about naming the store where the robbery occurred??
I guess they just take off the wire or whatever they use now days and just paste it in. No need reporters to do this job and no need to do any thinking or checking.

He kneed the employee in the head? Can we see the re-enactment?
