Strip’s Miracle Mile Shops sells for about $1.1 billion

The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood has been sold to Institutional Mall Investors LLC. The sale price is being reported as slightly below $1.1 billion, almost the same price as in the recent sale of The Crystals at CityCenter.

The 200-store mall is ranked among the top 10 busiest malls in the U.S. On the other end of the Strip, the venerable Bonanza Gift Shop was sold for $50 million. Located kitty-corner from SLS Las Vegas, it’s famous for its marquee declaring it “The World’s Largest Gift Shop.” The new owner is the current operator, who says he plans to keep the store open.

Lucky Dragon: The Nevada Gaming Commission has granted final approval for the opening of the Lucky Dragon on Dec. 3. The casino, directly west of the Bonanza Gift Shop, will have 300 machines and 40 table games, with an emphasis on baccarat and pai gow in keeping with its Asian theme.

Cornerstone HH: The new steakhouse at the Gold Coast that replaces the former Cortez Room runs a good happy hour daily from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring $5 beer and wine, $7 cocktails and $8 appetizers, including steak tartare, oysters Rockefeller and prime rib sliders. If you go for dinner, steak prices are a little higher than they were when it was the Cortez Room, but still in the $20s and $30s.

Cher: What looks like the last hurrah for Cher in Vegas, and possibly anywhere, is set for an 18-show run from Feb. 18 to May 25 at the soon-to-debut Park Theater at Monte Carlo. Tickets are listed at $60 to $475.

Two Crackers: Las Vegas’ second Cracker Barrel has opened on the east side of town. The first Cracker Barrel opened this summer at Silverton.

Question: What happened to the plans for a panda exhibit to be part of Resorts World Las Vegas when it opens?

Answer: The pandas are out, possibly due to pressure from pro-animal-rights groups who were opposed to the plan. Construction on the much-delayed resort is now scheduled to begin in early 2017, with the first phase opening in 2019.
