President-elect Donald Trump boards his plane at Palm Beach International Airport, Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla., en route to New York.

NEW YORK >> President-elect Donald Trump is claiming, without evidence, that millions of people voted illegally in the election he won, issuing the baseless claim as part of his angry response to a recount effort led by the Green Party and joined by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally,” Trump tweeted Sunday. He later alleged “serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California.”

Trump’s transition team did not provide any evidence to back up the president-elect’s assertions of fraud in the November election. They pointed only to past charges of irregularities in voter registration.

Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said Monday he had “not seen any voter irregularity in the millions.”

“I don’t know what he was talking about on that one,” Lankford said of Trump on CNN’s “New Day.”

Indeed, there has been no evidence of widespread tampering or hacking that would change the results of the presidential contest between Trump and Clinton. The Democrat’s team said it had been looking for abnormalities and found nothing that would alter the results.

Still, Clinton’s campaign was joining a recount led by Green Party candidate Jill Stein in up to three states. Wisconsin election officials are expected to meet Monday to discuss a possible timeline for a recount of that state’s presidential votes; recounts are possible in Pennsylvania and Michigan as well.

“We intend to participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides,” Clinton campaign attorney Marc Elias said.

Trump narrowly won Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and, as of last Wednesday, held a lead of almost 11,000 votes in Michigan, with the results awaiting state certification Monday. All three would need to flip to Clinton to upend the Republican’s victory, and Clinton’s team says Trump has a larger edge in all three states than has ever been overcome in a presidential recount.

After spending the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida, Trump was back in New York for meetings with potential Cabinet nominees. His team was divided over his choices for secretary of state, particularly the prospect that Trump could tap 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney for the prominent post.

Romney is scheduled to hold his second in-person meeting with Trump on Tuesday. But the president-elect is also looking at other options, meeting Monday with retired Gen. David Petraeus and on Tuesday with Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

In an unusual public airing of internal machinations, Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway warned Sunday that the president-elect’s supporters would feel “betrayed” if he tapped Romney as secretary of state. Romney denounced Trump in scathing terms during the campaign, prompting Trump to call him a “choker” who “walks like a penguin.”

The spectacle of close aides who speak frequently with Trump in private being so explicit about their personal opinions in public raised the possibility that Conway was acting at Trump’s behest.

People involved in the transition process said Trump’s decision on his secretary of state did not appear to be imminent. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was initially seen as the favorite for the diplomatic post, but Trump is said to have grown irritated by questions about Giuliani’s international business ties, as well as the mayor’s public campaigning for the job.

Even with major administration decisions looming, Trump seems preoccupied by the prospect of a recount.

“Hillary Clinton conceded the election when she called me just prior to the victory speech and after the results were in,” He tweeted Sunday. “Nothing will change.”

He quoted from Clinton’s concession speech — “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead” — and he concluded: “So much time and money will be spent – same result! Sad.”

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Conway said Stein, “the Hillary people” and others supporting recounts have to decide whether they are going to back a peaceful transition “or if they’re going to be a bunch of crybabies and sore losers about an election that they can’t turn around.”

Clinton’s lawyer said her team has been combing through the results since the election in search of anomalies that would suggest hacking by Russians or others and found “no actionable evidence.” But “we feel it is important, on principle, to ensure our campaign is legally represented in any court proceedings and represented on the ground in order to monitor the recount process itself,” he said.

    • kiragirl says:

There are many undocumented people in California who have a driver’s license so are allowed to vote.

      • klastri says:

You are not correct, and are repeating a lie published by fake news sites. The law in California is very clear – having a driver’s license does not constitute a voter registration, and the driver’s license cannot be used as an affirmation of citizenship.

        • dontbelieveinmyths says:

Explain why the illegal (undocumented) person can even get a license?

        • klastri says:

ontbelieveinmyths – Because the law allows it.

        • gary360 says:

Ask CA why they give a drivers license to undocumented people. They will probably tell you, “So they can get to work.” Unofficially, there’s approximately 2 mil. illegals with a CA drivers license.

        • Cricket_Amos says:

          Seems a little more complex.
According to California Assembly Bill 1461, Chapter 729
(This is the California Motor Voter Program)

Someone who goes to get a driver’s license, which is now possible for illegal immigrants, gets automatically registered as a voter, unless they opt out.

As part of this process, the DMV is required to supply the Secretary of State( for voter registration purposes), 14 items. One of these is a “notation that the applicant has attested that he or she meets all voter eligibility requirements, including US citizenship.” No actual proof of citizenship is required.

It becomes a question of how well this information is checked by the Secretary of State.

There appears to be little risk to the potential illegal immigrant voter, because the law also states:

“The bill would also provide that if a person who is ineligible to vote becomes registered to vote by operation of this program, and that person votes or attempts to vote in an election held after the effective date of the person’s registration, that person shall be presumed to have acted with official authorization and is not guilty of fraudulently voting or attempting to vote”

        • Ronin006 says:

Klastri, what have you to say about Cricket_Amos’s comment?

      • skinut says:

Wrong! This is another lie spread by the far right. The law allowing the undocumented to get driver’s licenses do not allow them to vote. To be automatically registered to vote, they must also prove citizenship. Since they must also show a picture id, the process is very secure.

      • bsdetection says:

Undocumented people with a drivers license cannot vote in California or in any other state. Non-citizens who are documented cannot vote either. You are spreading a lie. To vote in a Federal election you must meet the citizenship requirements set by Federal law. No state can lower those eligibility requirements. California cannot do it. It would be unconstitutional. Go to the library and borrow an eighth grade civics textbook to learn how election eligibility works.

      • Allaha says:

Millions who came here illegally have received citizenship. To Trump they are granted citizenship illegally and vote illegally. So he is right!

    • Tita Girl says:

Stein raised more money for the recount than for her own campaign. I wonder if the people sending their $$$$ to Stein for the recount realize that if she and the other odds-n-ends candidates were not in the race, Mrs. Clinton could have been PE.

    • bsdetection says:

You are refuting an argument that no one is making. Unlike the North Carolina Governor’s race where the Republican is asking for a recount because he thinks he will win, no one is claiming that a recount in Wisconsin will overturn the results. Jill Stein obviously doesn’t think she’ll win Wisconsin. She believes in protecting the integrity of the electoral process and is concerned that it has been compromised in Wisconsin. Trump seems to agree. Drawing on an evidence-less story from Alex Jones’s Infowars website, Trump announced this weekend that there is massive electoral fraud. If he’s so concerned about fraud, why doesn’t he support an audit of the process in Wisconsin, a state where Gov. Walker’s party has a long record of voter suppression and un-Constitutional gerrymandering? Why is Trump opposed to finding out the truth? Some computer scientists and statisticians have said that there is a discrepancy between the pattern of votes in Wisconsin counties that use paper ballots and counties that use computer ballots. When it comes to election integrity, why do you think anyone should “give it up?” Jill Stein is exercising and paying for a process that is her legal right to pursue under Wisconsin law. Why are the Trumpkins so upset? It makes no sense to simultaneously denounce the recount and also claim that there is massive fraud.

Putin must be thrilled with Trump’s tweets last weekend about voter fraud. Russian propaganda networks have been planting false stories in order to discredit American democracy in the eyes of the world, and he couldn’t have hoped for a better partner in those efforts than the gullible conspiracy theorist Donald Trump.

BTW Clinton is up 2.2+ million in the popular vote and her margin of victory is growing. I recall your commenting that the margin would never approach 2 million.

      • Bumby says:

Hacking a reality that can be made on these electronic voting machines. If they already knew it they should never have these machines taking the votes in the first place. Many on the democratic side as well as Obama, stated that these machines cannot be compromised and are secured. They must know otherwise for them to proceed and know how it is done apparently. Thus with this knowledge create votes out of these “virtual” machines. These machines should never again be used for future elections.

Jill Stein raised over 5 million in a couple days to have the recount paid for. She raised about a million during her run for presidency. She is being paid by someone to have this done. Is it the globalist who are doing everything possible in stopping Trump from being president.

The democrats and Clinton wanted Trump to accept the results whatever it was, they thinking they were going to win (Clinton). Now that they haven’t they are the ones not accepting the results and a peaceful transitions. This recount or looking into the machines being hacked adds to the turmoil that the globalist want. They want to divide the American people and create disenchantment.

If this does not pan out for the globalist don’t be surprised to see rioting not protest so that Obama can call out Marshall Law. Far fetch maybe. They the globalist know that the opportunity is now and not later. If this were to happen we know it is now.

Since Trump won there has been the murdering of police officers, riots in the streets, killing by non-citizens of America, etc. Where is our president telling its people to refrain and asking them to abide by the laws of our nation and our history of a smooth transition of power.

        • bsdetection says:

Not sure what you mean by “Marshall Law,” but based on the catalogue of crazy conspiracy theories you’ve combined in your post I’m guessing that you meant Martian Law.

    • keaukaha says:

      IMUA Hilliary!

  6. klastri says:

I’m not sure what anyone expected. Mr. Trump is obviously mentally ill and is set off on these ridiculous rants at the slightest insult to his greatness. He lies constantly in an attempt to bolster how wonderful he is. He’s a psychotic who should never have been elected. He will be hounded in his mind every minute of every day with the fact that he was badly beaten in the popular vote, and will come up with anything to pretend that isn’t so.

We all have mindless Trump supporters to blame for this – placing a profoundly unstable man in the White House. It’s a disgrace.

    • calentura says:

For a minute there, I thought you were describing yourself, klastri.

      • klastri says:

Wow! You are very clever! Do you do stand up someplace?

        • calentura says:

Yes, I am clever. Clever enough to see arrogance and conceit. Do I stand up..? Yes, I stand up for people with common sense, people who may not have a college education (even though I have one) but are intelligent enough take care of themselves without the help of condescending jerks like you.

        • klastri says:

calentura – You have a college education? Right …..

    • sarge22 says:

This is part and parcel to the reason dems do NOT want voter ID…I need a license or ID to do just about everything in the US other than vote…Seems almost criminal in and of itself…Let illegals vote and help decide who is going to run the country for THEIR benefit, not ours…Bass Ackward!

    • MoiLee says:

…I like the :”placing a profoundly unstable man in the White House. I’s a disgrace”.Stuff.
Hate to break it to y,no wait I’d love to break it you, that, By”Placing a profoundly “unstable” woman in the White House, would be, by far a Bigger mistake! I agree this would be a major….disgrace.
“I am proud to say and proud to be a “Deplorable” Go Trump!

Oh? BTW klastri! Give it up Bro!If you’re trying to “Make the Case”? You’re sinking. We won you Lost, accept defeat!

      • klastri says:

You totally misunderstand the role of the opposition party. Not a surprise, since you don’t seem to know much.

What happens now is constant fighting to prevent Trump and Pence from trampling on the Constitution and the law. That’s not accepting defeat – that’s called fighting for what’s right.

        • nalogirl says:

Klastri, it was Obama who has trampled on the constitution by by passing Congress with his pen and phone. I think we already had a dictatorship with Obama, Congress makes law and the President is supposed to follow it. Also, if it wasn’t for Stein and Clinton being such losers, our country couldmove on already. The election is over, live with it.

  7. GoldenDisk says:

Trump is just venting his frustrations with Clinton’s reversal. The real story here is with Dr. Jill Stein, who initiated the recount. According to Stein’s public Twitter page, she is initiating the recount to show problems with the voting system. Obviously, it is not to win the election, which is the likely reason for allowing only candidates to request recounts.
On Twitter, she scolds Clinton for wanting a recount after conceding to Trump, saying, “You cannot be on-again, off-again about democracy.” In response to Trump’s claims about fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire, and California, she says “Experts pointed us towards WI, PA, and MI as the largest chance of fraud, but we would support efforts elsewhere to uphold election integrity.” She claims to have raised 6 million dollars and will use it all for her election integrity cause. She advocates for automatic recounts to verify every election result, allowing felons to vote after serving their time, and permanent registration for voters.

    • CEI says:

Does she also advocate for voter ID?

    • nalogirl says:

Don’t you just love how the media goes after Trump when it was Stein that started this recount. The main stream media still doesn’t get it, it is so obvious that they love Clinton and will only write positive pieces on her but it is always negative with Trump. I think he is going to be a great President.

  8. paniolo says:

What if they voted illegally for you? Didn’t think of that, huh?

  9. MoiLee says:

……..AP another Non-Credible News Agency. Standard Procedure.
Look at this Headline, what do you read? It’s utter Nonsense!
We could use the same Heading for Dr. Jill Stein’s Recounting efforts too. She has NO Evidence either! But there is barely anything news in the MSM,saying that this just a SCAM! She’s raking in Millions! So she pays Wisconsin for the recount? She keeps the rest! She’s a “Scammer” period! Best part she is taking money from disgruntled Democrat Supporters, who can’t accept the reality Hillary Lost! And Lost “Big League”!

And don’t give me this Hillary won by “Popular Votes” stuff. In Lawyers term? This is “Irrelevant”.lol.
Electoral Votes are the rule of this land!

And yes ,let’s not forget, yours Truly Hillary Clinton, jumping on the Dr. Jill Stein Train ,who too, has NO EVIDENCE what so ever……It’s Ludicrous.

    Ultimately….
These “Recounting efforts” will find Nothing to change the outcome of this election! It’s like that famous song by Jimmy The Cricket……When you wish upon a Star….Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!
The Polling machines are Fine! I love this quote:
“It’s Like trying to hack a Refrigerator”. It’s not connected to the internet guys! And don’t blame the Russians either!
    Lastly….
Though I’m curious to see if President Trump get his “Wish”. I would love to see how many Illegals across the southern borders who’s representatives fought for “Voter ID” .Maybe many of them Voted for Hillary Clinton?
Yeah let’s also have that California recount too guys! Let’s see if we prove or disprove President Trump’s theory……..Must be in the Millions!

Oopps ,There goes Hillary Clinton’s Popular Votes.IMUA

  10. CEI says:

I feel for the demoralized and completely rudderless democrat party. But they made their own bed by alienating millions of hard working, taxpaying Americans in their quest to “fundamentally transform” the nation. Barry Hussein’s incompetence and Waldo Clinton’s lies have been exposed for anyone willing to look. Micro-managing progressives under little Barry overplayed their hand and ushered The Donald right into the WH. This childish nonsense of recounts gives the true believers false hope that the results will magically change and Waldo will ascend the throne. I wonder if democrats will support voter ID now.

It would be humorous to see where the world will be in the next 6 months. Try these.
“If oil prices stay below $60/bbl. Russia and many of the cash starved OPEC nations will be bankrupt. Trump will be in office and had already nexed OCARE and Iranian deals. The Muslim terrorists in this country will have been rounded up and shipped out or killed off(my personal preference).

Coal will make a surprising come back, as the EPA will have ousted of all the commie agents planted in o’s admin. George Soros will be dead. HC will either be indicted or have moved to, was it, Qatar, to seek asylum as they have no extradition treaty with the US and she has supposedly stashed $1.8 billion for a rainy day fund.

The DEMS. will have put Ellison, the commie muslim from Minn. as their party leader. The REPS. couldn’t have made a better pick, to ensure their continued winning at the polls.

Speaking of polls, there will be a massive and effective movement to substantially decrease voter fraud, as more states will require proper id’s to cast one’s ballot. A conservative judge will be appoints to the Supreme Court, which will protect the 1st and 2nd Amendments from further attacks.

And, lastly, many of the Hollywood types will move to Canada or Europe, thus fulfilling their threats. Don’t let the door hit you on the backside on your way out.”

  13. browniegirl says:

I think it’s very interesting that the Green Party and Hillary are doing EXACTLY what Trump threatened to do if he didn’t like the outcome of the election – which would have been his right. Now that they are exercising their right to request a recount, he’s so mad he can barely see straight. Whatever.

    • calentura says:

Bill Clinton must be delighted with this recount folly. Get Trump angry enough and maybe Hillary will end up in jail, and out of his hair. As I read elsewhere, she is the antidote for Viagra.

  14. bombay2101 says:

If there’s no evidence of tampering, why bother with a recount?
How many votes does Jill Stein think she will get? Oh, wait, its Hillary taht stand to win, although she already conceded?

  15. Ronin006 says:

Anyone who believes election fraud does not exist needs a reality check. What is not known is how widespread the fraud is. Liberals say there is no evidence of widespread election fraud; Trump says millions voted illegally in the last election. No one really knows because there is no aggressive investigation of suspected fraud cases, but it does happen. I was once a resident and registered voter in Florida before moving to Hawaii which became my legal residence and where I registered to vote. Nevertheless, my wife and I received absentee ballots for several elections even though we returned the ballots and advised the County registrar we no longer were residents of Florida. We both could have voted twice for President three of four times before the Florida ballots stopped coming. Now, let’s look at Hawaii. My wife and I applied for absentee ballots for the last election because we were going to be outside of the country on Election Day. The ballots were sent to the hotel where we were staying and we both voted by absentee ballots. About two weeks later, our daughter sent me an email saying that absentee ballots for both of us were also sent to our home in Hawaii. How did this happen? How many more people received two absentee ballots? How many completed and submitted both ballots? That is the unanswered question, but don’t bother liberals with such trivia because to them the problem is not widespread. Unfortunately, it is more widespread than they are willing to admit. I think Trump’s numbers are in the ballpark.

  16. cwo4usn says:

Whine, whine, whine when you don’t get your way.

  17. Cricket_Amos says:

Our data comes from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES). Its large number of observations (32,800 in 2008 and 55,400 in 2010) provide sufficient samples of the non-immigrant sub-population, with 339 non-citizen respondents in 2008 and 489 in 2010. For the 2008 CCES, we also attempted to match respondents to voter files so that we could verify whether they actually voted.

How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent of non-citizens voted in 2010.

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) won election in 2008 with a victory margin of 312 votes. Votes cast by just 0.65 percent of Minnesota non-citizens could account for this margin. It is also possible that non-citizen votes were responsible for Obama’s 2008 victory in North Carolina.

    Washington Post 2014 October 24

This study, obviously, is not without controversy. But simply saying “widely discredited” does not make it so.
