Owner watches as boy burglarizes Honolulu business
A teenager was arrested today after a Honolulu business owner watched on a video surveillance monitor as the boy burglarized his business, police said.
The business’s alarm was activated at 1:51 a.m. today, and the owner watched in real time as a 17-year-old boy took money from the cash register, police said. Meanwhile another juvenile suspect stood outside watching, police said.
The 17-year-old left with the other teen.
Police detained the suspects nearby and arrested the 17-year-old on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
The two were released to their parents pending investigation.

Burglars in training, gaining valuable, hands on experience.
Idjot PC is releasing them.
It might be personally rewarding to learn a little something about the law before commenting.
I wish we could give a thumbs up or down on the comments, they are very creative at times.
Money in the cash register sound like a good idea. Better then the burglar finding any empty draw ,getting mad and destroying the place.
wrightj,
The undergraduate burglary program is offered locally at OCCC. Postgraduate at Halawa. Applicants, if selected, are encouraged to progress at their own pace.
why is there money in the cash register of a closed business at 1:51 am? kinda asking for trouble.
Not necessarily the parents’ fault, but always wonder where they thought their kids were at that time of night…
Parents – “But they told me they were going to the Library!”.
“and their good boys”
Mr Bean, it is “they’re” good boys.
I’m waiting for the parents to say:
“He didn’t do it… I know my son!!!”
“He wouldn’t do that! He’s a very good boy!”
Since even Michael Brown is still regarded by legions of apologists as “The Gentle Giant” despite the release of the strongarm robbery video, well of course he’s a “good boy.”
Needs more details. Just that reason for being 17 years old, and now coddled by the system to protect their identity. If you do the crime then you should be exposed to the public. Adults are labeled for life when convicted of a crime. System needs to restructure itself to todays society.
Training to work in politics
LOL!!!!
Dbl LoL!
I bet Krook Caldwell and Bernie Madoff are reading this and both shedding a tear of joy at the future prodigy thieves.
Time to introduce these young criminals to the regular prison population.
Or capital punishment.
Yes! Charge as adults!!
“The two were released to their parents pending investigation.”>>> The SAME patents who ALSO should have been charged for ALLOWING their underage kids to be out past curfew? Those parents?
The kids are in training for a career with HART.
soundofreason, I would doubt the parents “allowed” the kids to be out. Laying down rules and actually following up to ensure the rules are maintained are 2 different things.
You obviously were neither a child that either lied to his parents or were never a parent.
It is obviously apparent.
Parent of THREE LAW ABIDING children who KNEW I would beat their $#$ if they ever pulled a stunt like that. Their knowing this, PREVENTED me from ever having to do so. PARENTING.
FYI SA, there is a legal distinction between robbery and burglary. If HPD charged the teen with robbery, there was probably an employee present during the theft. Due diligence?
Make them attend a session like they had before…SCARED STRAIGHT. Let the real convicts scare the sh_t out of them. Maybe they’ll learn something from that.
What kind of lesson is that? Breaking into a business then getting released? No deterrent there. The lesson learned is “next time case the joint better before doing the job”.
They’re under 18 so just cut off one hand
Is this what passes as a news story now? Kinda like saying a tree fell in the woods the other day…no details…not even the name of the store…if the news can’t put the stores name or whatever business is being robbed, in what area…what’s the point? The only thing differentiating this story from the dozens of robberies taking place around Honolulu every day is that there is an added twist of the perps being caught on video in real time.
Their identities are protected because they are juveniles. But still I agree the SA writers do incomplete stories all the time.
My Dad, in the 1960s,hooked a movie camera to the phone line and he had surveillance of his store. For free!
Did they have that technology to do that back then?
And how exactly did he transmit the video feed via the POTS (plain old telephone line system) when the bandwidth required to transmit a video feed exceeded the POTS transmission capabilities? Was it reverse osmosis, smoke signals or Morse code? LOL
Surveillance cameras are getting better and better. The future is world that is watched by cameras.
Something happened to someone somewhere. An unknown perpetrator robbed an unknown victim somewhere in the state. Please tune into television news media for detailed information. HSA, please provide information or do not publish this space filler.
Unfortunately, they’re being released into the same parents who didn’t do their job right the first time around. Of course, they may be good parents and these children were simply incorrigible. I just hope that this experience will set them straight…while they sit n jail with time to think about it. With our luck they won’t d any time and they’ll continue to victimize others.

And so we send them back to the same parents who failed them in the first place.
