Wahine rout UC Irvine in women’s basketball
The Hawaii women’s basketball team routed UC Irvine 79-62 tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center for its third win in four games.
UH (7-11, 3-3 Big West) shot 50.8 percent and established control in the second and third quarters with a 16-0 run bridging intermission.
Lahni Salanoa led the way with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Sarah Toeaina added 13 points, Leah Salanoa scored 12 and Makenna Woodfolk contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Wahine continue play Saturday at 5 p.m. against Cal Poly.
UCI (3-17, 1-5) hit a season-high 12 3-pointers but supplemented that with only seven buckets from inside the arc. The Anteaters shot 32.8 percent overall.
Irvine rallied from an early eight-point deficit to tie it at 15 in the second quarter.

Lahni Salanoa hit back-to-back 3s to put UH back in control. Leah Salanoa hit her second triple to extend the lead. UH closed out the period on a 10-0 run to lead 37-22 at intermission.
The Wahine kept it going out of the break, scoring the first six points to push the lead to 21.
Lahni Salanoa hit her fourth 3 in six attempts to keep UH ahead 56-36 late in the third. The lead grew to 25 early in the fourth.
Andee Ritter led the Anteaters with 19 points on 6-for-19 shooting, including five 3s.
