High surf, wind warnings in effect through Monday afternoon

STAR-ADVERTISER / 2016

High surf is expected for the norht shore of Oahu.

A high surf warning remains in effect until at least 6 p.m. today for the north and west shores of Oahu, Kauai, Niihau and Molokai and the north shores of Maui.

Surf of 25 to 35 feet is expected, the National Weather Service said.

The combination of large surf and strong north-northeast winds could lead to flooding of some coastal roads, especially during this morning’s high tide, the weather service said.

A large north-northwest swell was expected to arrive this evening, raising the surf to 10 to 15 feet.

Also breaking waves in harbor channels could make boating dangerous, the agency said.

Meanwhile, a wind advisory remains in effect through at least 6 p.m. today for the entire state. The forecast calls for winds of 20 to 35 mph, with gusts between 50 and 55 mph.

The winds will accelerate over certain types of terrain and down the lee slopes of most islands, the weather service said. Residents should bring in or tie down any loose outdoor items, the agency added.
