Children’s book conference welcomes writers, illustrators

The Hawaii chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators will hold its annual conference and workshops March 25 and 26. New and established writers and illustrators may attend talks, critiques and workshops such as “Help Your Manuscript Hook an Editor.”

Faculty will include Alvina Ling, vice president and editor-in-chief at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; Lauren Rille, art director at Simon & Schuster; Andrea Welch, executive editor at Beach Lane Books; and YA author David Estes (“The Earth Dwellers”).

BOOK CLUB EXAMINES KING DAVID NOVEL, ART

The book club of the Honolulu Museum of Art will be reading “The Secret Chord,” a novel about King David by Geraldine Brooks, whose 2005 novel, “March,” won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Book discussions, followed by a gallery tour of artwork that connects with the Old Testament, will take place at 1 p.m. March 25 and 29 in the Palm Court of the museum, 900 S. Beretania St.

Book club meetings are free with museum admission of $10; 532-8700.
