The Mob Museum attracted more than 350,000 visitors last year, bringing the total to 1.3 million to date.

Downtown’s Mob Museum has announced plans for a $6.5 million expansion that will add several new exhibits, including “Organized Crime Today,” “The Crime Lab” and “Firearms Training Simulator.” There will also be an expanded retail area, a new food and beverage outlet, and a speak-easy and distillery in the basement that will have an educational bent, documenting how the “moonshining” business was run during Prohibition. Work will begin this summer and conclude in the first quarter of 2018. The museum attracted more than 350,000 visitors last year, bringing the total to 1.3 million to date.

Sales tax increase: The Clark County sales tax rate has been increased from 8.15 to 8.25 percent, which will affect prices for food and drinks in Las Vegas. It won’t be significant: For a $7 drink, the price, when tax isn’t built in, will rise from $7.57 to $7.58. But it’s still one more extra charge being tacked on to entertainment costs.

Brixit: Britney Spears’ last show at Planet Hollywood will be on Dec. 31. Spears’ agent has confirmed that the show will close at the conclusion of Britney’s current contract, but left the door open for her to sign with another casino and possibly even another in the Caesars Entertainment group.

Off-Strip: Louie Anderson will host a new comedy club called “Louie Anderson Presents: The After Show” which will run once a month on Saturdays at The Space, a new off-Strip entertainment venue. The first scheduled shows are Saturday, May 13, June 17 and July 15. Tickets start at $20.

Question: Will there be any good tax-day promos in the casinos?

Answer: There will be several, but the best is at Downtown Grand, where on Tuesday you’ll get 5 percent of the amount of your refund-check in slot free-play when you cash it there. Maximum free-play is $100. Based on history, more tax-day deals are likely to show up at El Cortez, Cannery, Eastside Cannery, Silverton, both Arizona Charlie’s, Ellis Island, Lucky Club, Silver Nugget, Rampart, Club Fortune, the Plaza, and Shark Reef at MBay.
