UH uses long ball to beat UC Riverside, take series
Alex Fitchett hit a two-run homer to break a 4-all tie in the seventh and lead the University of Hawaii baseball team to a 7-4 victory over UC Riverside today at the Riverside Sports Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors won the Big West series, 2-1, and split this six-game, 10-day road trip.
Eric Ramirez powered a three-run homer to boost the ’Bows to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. But the Highlanders chipped away, tying it in the sixth on Connor Cannon’s second home run of the game and seventh of the season.
Ramirez opened the seventh with a walk, prompting UCR head coach Troy Percival to head to the mound. Percival decided to let Alex Fagalde to continue pitch. Four pitches later, Fitchett homered to left field. Fitchett and Fagalde were teammates at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado, Calif.
Dylan Vchulek’s RBI single in the seventh kept alive his streak of reaching base in each of the ’Bows’ 33 games this season.
