Firefighters extinguish ‘suspicious’ brush fires in Kau
Hawaii island firefighters responded to two separate brush fires in Kau.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters responded to a brush fire in a remote area off Kaalaiki Road. The fire scorched about a quarter-acre. The Hawaii County Fire Department said after firefighters brought the fire under control, they observed a second fire about a mile away in a remote gulch located above a macadamia nut tree orchard.
Firefighters brought the second fire under control at 2:20 p.m. and extinguished it at 3:45 p.m.
Battalion Chief Matthias Kusch said the cause of both fires is suspicious.
