UH baseball team upsets No. 14 Cal State Fullerton

Hawaii outfielder Alex Fitchett caught a fly ball against Cal State Fullerton in the top of the first inning.

Jackson Rees allowed one run in eight innings and Johnny Weeks powered a two-run homer to lead Hawaii to a 4-1 baseball victory over No. 14 Cal State Fullerton tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

The ’Bows evened the three-game series at a victory apiece and improved to 26-16 overall and 7-7 in the Big West. The Titans are 27-16. The finale is Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

Rees worked out of jams in the fifth and eighth innings when he induced double plays. He walked two and struck out four in eight innings.

Dylan Thomas pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.

The ’Bows took a 2-1 in the fifth when Dylan Vchulek pulled a two-run double down the left-field line. Soon after, Weeks hit a two-run, opposite-field homer over the wall in right field.
