Overnight fire at Kahuku High under investigation

Firefighters extinguished a fire early today that started inside a bathroom ventilation duct at Kahuku High School.

Just before 2:50 a.m., 19 firefighters responded to the fire at 56-490 Kamehameha Highway. When they arrived, they observed light smoke and flames emerging from the roof of the school’s administrative building, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 3 a.m. and extinguished it by 3:34 a.m.

Jenkins said the administrative building was closed and unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate has yet to be determined.
