A police cruiser remained at the scene of a fatal stabbing at the Pacificana Atlas apartments this morning.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man after he allegedly fatally stabbed his wife in Makiki late Tuesday.

The victim’s name has yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.

The stabbing occurred at Pacificana Atlas apartments located at 1125 Young St.

Prior to 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Homicide Lt. Phillip Lavarias of the Honolulu Police Department said the suspect and the victim, 42, were involved in a dispute. The argument escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife and fled.

A minor found the 42-year-old woman with stab wounds to the upper part of her body. Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the 42-year-old woman to a trauma hospital in critical condition where she died.

Lavarias said police were at apartment building investigating the stabbing when they saw the suspect drive up in a sedan at about 11:15 p.m.

Police stopped him in front of the building and arrested the 41-year-old man on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder. The offense was reclassified to second-degree murder when the victim was pronounced dead.
