Man dies after being pulled from lagoon

A 54-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in an apparent drowning at Ko Olina, according to police.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Joseph J. Flores Jr. of Waianae. An autopsy is expected to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

At about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Emergency Medical Services said, Flores experienced an undisclosed medical condition when he was in the shallow water of Lagoon 4.

Paramedics arrived and performed lifesaving measures on Flores before transporting him in critical condition to a hospital.

Police said he died Monday.

Drowning victim was 68-year-old Aiea man

A scuba diver who died after he was found unresponsive off of Barbers Point has been identified as Steven S. Tanaka.

Tanaka, 68, of Aiea was found unresponsive about a mile from shore at 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

Ocean Safety lifeguards brought him to shore and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Emergency Medical Services responded and performed advanced lifesaving measures. Spokeswoman Shayne Enright said paramedics transported Tanaka in critical condition to a hospital where he died later that day.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was drowning and that the manner of death was ruled an accident.

Vehicle hits woman on Houghtailing Street

Emergency Medical Services transported a 59-year-old woman to a hospital after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Kalihi.

At about 7:30 p.m. Monday, EMS said, the pedestrian was crossing the road in front of Damien Memorial School at 1401 Houghtailing St. when she was struck by the vehicle.

Paramedics responded and treated the woman before transporting her in serious condition to a hospital.

Jump threat leads to closing of highway

Traffic was shut down on both sides of Pali Highway near noon Tuesday as a woman threatened to jump from the highway on the Kailua side of the tunnel, Honolulu police said.

Pali Highway near the tunnel was closed or partially closed in both directions from 11:10 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

Police said the woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Alleged robber arrested by police in Kailua

Police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of robbing a Kailua business.

The man allegedly took items from a business at 9:39 a.m. Sunday and allegedly threatened a security guard with a dangerous instrument.

The man fled on foot with the stolen property.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree robbery at 9:42 a.m. Tuesday on Lihiwai Road in Kailua.
