STATELINE, Nev. >> Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is donating thousands of dollars to environmental groups at Lake Tahoe ahead of a pair of weekend concerts on the shores of the mountain lake.

The Johnson Ohana Foundation created by Johnson and his wife, Kim, has donated $4 million to 400 nonprofits worldwide since 2008 in support of the environmental, arts and music education.

Johnson recently announced he would make matching donations up to $2,500 to The League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Rim Association. Sugar Pine Foundation and Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships.

League Director Erica Mirich told the Tahoe Daily Tribune her group reached the goal the first day and has raised $8,500 in matching funds. The newspaper reported today the three other organizations are nearing their donation goals.

Friday and Saturday’s concerts at Harveys Outdoor Arena in Stateline are sold out.
