The remnants of former Tropical Cyclone Greg will continue to blanket the islands with wet, muggy weather today as Tropical Storm Hilary continues to weaken and Irwin spins in place.

Forecasters with National Weather Service say we can expect increased humidity and showers at least through tonight with possible locally heavy downpours. Windward areas are primarily affected, although the leeward slopes of Hawaii island and some of the smaller islands will see some showers.

At 11 a.m., Tropical Storm Hilary was 640 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and moving to the northwest at 9 mph.

Weather officials expect Hilary to increase its forward speed yet weaken in intensity over the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the storm’s center.

Tropical Storm Irwin, meanwhile, has resumed its forward movement, heading north at a relatively slow 2 mph while packing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph about 1,130 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

Weather officials expect the storm to continue moving to the north, even increasing in speed through Saturday with fluctuations in intensity.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.
