Firefighters investigate cause of fire at unpermitted Big Isle home

Hawaii County firefighters extinguished an early morning fire at a home in Pahoa.

Just after 3:40 a.m. today, eight units staffed with 14 firefighters responded to a fire at a single-story unpermitted structure on Forest Road. When they arrived, they observed the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 4 a.m. and extinguished it at 4:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage was estimated at $4,000.
