Firefighters investigate cause of Laupahoehoe brush fire
Hawaii island firefighters battled a brush fire that scorched 20 acres in Laupahoehoe Tuesday.
Shortly after 10:40 a.m., 10 units staffed with 14 firefighters responded to the fire on vacant land with tall grass at the intersection of Papaaloa and Ochiro roads. The Hawaii County Fire Department said gusty tradewinds caused the fire to rapidly spread to 20 acres.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 12:30 p.m. and monitored the area throughout the night.
The cause of the brush fire is unknown at this time.
