Water main repair continues on Mariner’s Ridge, but most service restored
Board of Water Supply workers are repairing a 12-inch water main that ruptured in Hawaii Kai, temporarily cutting off service to hundreds of customers on Mariner’s Ridge.
The break at the intersection of Kaluanui Road at the Kanakou Place was reported at about 1:10 a.m. today. One lane of Kaluanui Road was closed between Kapa Place and Kalahu Place while crews conduct repairs.
About 300 customers from Kaahue Street to the top of Mariner’s Ridge had been affected by the rupture, but crews used a bypass to restore service to all but 14 customers by this afternoon.
The Board of Water Supply placed a water wagon near the intersection of Kalahu Place and Kaluanui Road. Two roving wagons are also available in the area and can be requested by calling 748-5000, ext. 1.
Despite the service restoration for most customers, the board asks residents from Kaahue Street to the top of Mariners Ridge to use water only for priority needs — cooking, drinking and personal hygiene — until further notice.
Repairs are expected to take place throughout the day and possibly overnight.
