Kakaako pedestrian victim identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified today a 64-year-old woman who died after being struck by a vehicle exiting a driveway in Kakaako as Mieko Arita.

She lived in the Kakaako/Ala Moana area, according to her zip code, which was released by the Medical Examiner’s office.

Police said Arita was walking south-bound on Queen Street near Hokua condos about 9:05 a.m. Friday when she was hit by a vehicle exiting a driveway. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition and died Saturday of her injuries, police said.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
