Speed and alcohol cited in North Shore pedestrian death

Speed and alcohol were factors in a crash Saturday in Waialua that led to the death of a 20-year-old man, police said.

At about 8:45 p.m., the driver, a 65-year-old man, hit the younger man on Kaukonahua Road near Keakula Street, police said.

The driver was Waianae-bound at the time, and the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he died.

It was Oahu’s fifth traffic fatality this year compared to one at this time last year.
