UC Santa Barbara tops Rainbow Warriors, 4-3, as 2018 baseball season nears end
Right-handed senior Steve Ledesma pitched a six-hitter over eight innings in UC Santa Barbara’s 4-3 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Ledesma struck out eight to help the Gauchos improve to 26-27-1 overall and 9-13 in the Big West. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 26-23 and 10-12.
The ’Bows tied it at 2 on Ethan Lopez’s sixth homer of the season, a two-run drive over the wall in right field in seventh inning.
But the Gauchos scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Clay Fisher and Tommy Jew hit consecutive RBI singles.
The ’Bows closed to 4-3 on Lopez’s RBI single. But Chris Clements, who replaced Alex Patterson, got the final two outs for his second save.
The ‘Bows will play two more games against the Gauchos in the last series of the 2018 season.
