Woman assaulted in Hilo cemetery restroom, police say

Hawaii island police are asking the public’s help in locating a male suspect who allegedly assaulted a woman in the restroom at Alae Cemetery in Hilo.

Police said a 34-year-old woman said she was in the restroom at about 1 p.m. on June 13 when the suspect who was hiding in the bathroom attacked her.

He fled the area after another woman entered the restroom.

Police said the victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

The assailant is described to be in his 50s, 5 feet 5 inches with thick salt-and-pepper-colored hair and bald patches on his scalp.

He was last seen wearing black pants and a black T-shirt at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Sgt. Norbert Serrao of the South Hilo Patrol Division at 961-8112 or e-mail at Norbert.Serrao@hawaiicounty.gov.

Individuals also may call the police department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
