A 27-year-old Maryland man who was reported missing four days ago after going on a hike alone on Molokai was found dead today, Maui police said.

Stephen Kramar was last seen Monday leaving the Wavecrest Resort in Kaunakakai, Molokai. He was returning from a hike earlier in the day, but never made it back, Maui police said.

At 9:16 a.m. today, a volunteer assisting with the search for Kramar found a lifeless body on the hillside in an area called Pia Gulch, about a half-mile northeast of the Wavecrest Resort, Maui Police Department spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto said.

The body was identified as Kramar’s, Okamoto said.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of his death.

On MPD’s Facebook page, Jeffanie Kramar said she and Stephen were on their honeymoon on Molokai when Stephen went out for a hike alone.

She said she last heard from him at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, and he told her he was on his way back.

A GoFundMe page set up to help Jeffanie pay for expenses said Kramar had been scouting the area to make sure it was safe to take his wife hiking. The page raised more than $10,000 in one day.

NBC Washington reported Kramar is from Potomac, Maryland.
