A 25-year-old man charged with manslaughter in the 2017 deadly attack of a 51-year-old man in Mililani pleaded not guilty to the charge at Circuit Court today.

Shane Dilwith appeared at his arraignment before Judge Clarence Pacarro via closed-circuit video link from the Oahu Community Correctional Center on the manslaughter charge involving the death of Thomas Morikawa Jr. of Mililani.

Dilwith’s attorney, Michael Green, entered a not guilty plea on Dilwith’s behalf. Pacarro confirmed his bail at $150,000 and set his trial for November.

Police said Dilwith assaulted Morikawa without provocation at Jungle Juice Market on Waihau Street on the night of Dec. 8, 2017.

Prosecutors allege that Dilwith entered Jungle Juice Market, walked up to Thomas Morikawa Jr., exchanged a few words with him, and punched him. He died in a hospital on Dec. 15 from head injuries sustained in the attack. The Honolulu Medical Examiner said Morikawa died from cranial cerebral injuries due to blunt force head trauma.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Dilwith with manslaughter and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Law enforcement authorities located and arrested him in Arizona in May. He was extradicted to Hawaii last week.
