Hot, muggy weather to stick around through Sunday
Hot and muggy weather will continue today into Saturday, with relief coming due to the return of trades on Sunday, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
Weather officials said a convergent band of deep moisture lingering over the western end of the Hawaiian Islands today means more humid weather, with trades expected to push it westward towards Kauai today, bringing more stable weather across the isles tonight. But relief from the humidity is not expected until Sunday.
“You’ll have tradewinds,” said NWS meteorologist Vanessa Almanza. “Saturday will be like a transition. There’s still potential for thunderstorms today and Saturday, and there’s still going to be some lingering moisture, but the dry tradewinds will be coming Sunday into next week.”
Muggy weather, however, is expected to return again the middle of next week, Almanza said.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center, meanwhile, said a tropical depression is likely to form south of Hawaii by this Saturday, but move away from the isles. If it strengthens into a tropical storm, it will be named Walaka, Hawaiian for Walter.
