Girl started fire in her own Kapolei home, police say

Police are investigating an arson case after a girl allegedly set fire to items in her home in Kapolei.

Police said the girl set fire to miscellaneous items in a stairwell of the residence at approximately 3:30 a.m. today. A male family member discovered the fire and extinguished it.

Police said the girl fled the home and has yet to be located.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to the blaze that caused minimal damage to the structure.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made at this time.

The case has been transferred to the Honolulu Police Department’s Major Crimes Detail.
