A 41-year-old man remained in custody Friday afternoon on suspicion of murder after a 23-year-old man’s body was found with suspicious injuries in a shipping container in Kahaluu.

Positive identification of the victim is pending.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of second- degree murder shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lt. Deena Thoemmes of the Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail said the victim was the suspect’s tenant.

The suspect owns a residence on Ahaolelo Road.

Patrol officers Thursday responded to the property on Ahaolelo Road after an individual called 911 and reported hearing “some suspicious commotion” in the area, Thoemmes said.

The victim was found in the container on the property at approximately 12:30 p.m. with suspicious injuries to his torso.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation.

Court records show the suspect alledgedly has a history of violence.

In 2016 a woman he dated and lived with filed a temporary restraining order against him. In the court records she said he punched her numerous times and threatened to kill her and her family. The woman also alleged the suspect had kicked her numerous times and spit on her.

The woman claimed he kept a machete next to the bed and a gun hidden in the home.

The court granted the woman a one-month temporary restraining order and a subsequent one-year protective order against the suspect.
