Cause of Kahului home fire under investigation

Maui firefighters responded Saturday morning to a fire at a Kahului home, according to the Maui Fire Department.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Maui firefighters responded to reports of a fire at 225 S. Papa Avenue in the residential neighborhood near Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Crews that arrived on scene found an active fire on the exterior of the structure that extended into the kitchen. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames.

Four occupants were inside the home at the time, but were able to safely exit prior to the arrival of fire crews from Wailuku and Kahului. No injuries were reported. Damages are estimated at $27,000 to the structure and $2,000 to contents. The cause of this fire remains undetermined.
