Maui police are looking for the driver of an unknown vehicle that hit a woman after she fell off a motorcycle Christmas night in Kihei.

The woman died at the scene and has been identified by police as Stacy Jackson, 45, of Kihei.

Police said Jackson was a passenger on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading southbound on Piilani Highway just south of Kaonoulu Street at about 6:25 p.m. and had fallen off the motorcycle after the driver hit a rock on the roadway. The woman was then hit by an unknown vehicle that did not stop.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle, a 50-year-old Kihei man, was not injured in the crash.

Both the operator and the passenger of the motorcycle were not wearing helmets.

Police closed the road for about four hours to investigate.

Anyone who may have information on the vehicle that did not stop is urged to call officer Aaron Williams of the Vehicle Homicide Unit at 808-244-6365.

This was Maui’s 18th traffic fatality this year compared to 17 at this time last year.
