ONE PADDLE, TWO PADDLE: Novelty hagoita wooden paddles bearing the popular faces of 2018 — including Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, left, and tennis star Naomi Osaka — were produced at traditional doll manufacturer Kyugetsu Co.’s store in Taito Ward, Tokyo. Since 1986, the company has released hagoita paddles every December featuring the year’s most famous faces. This year’s selection also includes two-time Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu and Namie Amuro, who retired from her singing career in September.
