Worker escapes bakery fire in Waipio Gentry

Honolulu firefighters responded to a fire at a bakery in Waipio Gentry early today.

The fire broke out at approximately 1:05 a.m. at Ohia Bakery at 94-344 Ukee St.

Ten units with 35 firefighters responded to the blaze. When they arrived, they observed black smoke emanating from the front of the bakery, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant.

An employee who was working inside the bakery at the time of the fire safely escaped before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 1:35 a.m. and extinguished it at 2:31 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Seguirant said the fire was confined to the bakery.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.
