Kaumualii Highway on Kauai reopened following fatal car crash
A 54-year-old man from Kalaheo has died following a two-vehicle crash early this morning that closed Kaumualii Highway in both directions near Halfway Bridge in Kipu.
Kauai police have reopened Kaumualii Highway following a six-hour closure after the fatal crash, according to a 12:13 p.m. tweet from the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
Kauai police were conducting an investigation on the scene as of 9:34 a.m. today.
A Kalaheo man, 54, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck heading west on Kaumualii Highway. He crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming Ford F-350 flatbed truck shortly after 5 a.m. today, Kauai police said in an email statement.
An ambulance transported the man to Wilcox Hospital, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released.
A 32-year-old man, a Lawai resident driving the F-350, was transported to Wilcox Hospital in a private vehicle. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Kauai police did not provide details on whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
