Sacred Hearts Academy graduate and University of Hawaii student Tiana Wong was crowned the 70th Narcissus Queen at Hawaii Theatre on Saturday night.

Wong, who was born in Kailua and is the daughter of Matt and Lei Wong, is double-majoring in biochemistry and dance at UH-Manoa. She also serves as the captain of the University of Hawaii Dance Team and spends her free time working as a student assistant and mentor for UH’s College Opportunities Program.

After graduation, Wong hopes to attend medical school and pursue a career as an emergency room physician.

Wong was one of 11 contestants in this year’s pageant, which includes four phases: a judges’ interview, talent, Chinese evening gown and speech.

Also crowned on Saturday night:

>> Caroline Kodama, Fourth Princess

Along with the overall crown, Tiana Wong also won the awards for Miss Congeniality and Miss Talent; Melody Lai was recognized as Miss Photogenic; Monique Palisbo received the Miss Popularity award; and Jennifer Wong was named Miss Social Media.

The Narcissus Queen and her court will represent Hawaii’s local Chinese community and Chinese Chamber of Commerce throughout the Year of the Pig in 2019, with the highlight being a goodwill tour to China later this year.

The public will have an opportunity to meet and greet the new queen and her court at Chinese New Year celebrations at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Feb. 1 and 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, 100 N. Beretania St. A grand coronation ball will be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
