Maui police identify surfer who died at Honolua Bay

A surfer who died after he was unresponsive in waters at Honolua Bay on Maui has been identified as Plinio Lattanzi of Lahaina.

Lt. Gregg Okamoto, a spokesman of the Maui Police Department, said surfers found Lattanzi, 54, unresponsive at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday.

They brought him to shore and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Okamoto said medics responded and conducted lifesaving efforts on Lattanzi to no avail.

He later died.
