Hawaii baseball falls to Ohio State in fifth consecutive loss
Dominic Cazone hit two home runs and Conner Pohl’s sacrifice fly broke a 4-all tie in the seventh inning in Ohio State’s 6-5 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes won the first two of this four-game series to improve to 12-10. The Rainbow Warriors’ fifth consecutive loss dropped them to 9-13. The teams meet Saturday beginning at 9:05 a.m. Hawaii time.
The ’Bows scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Daylen Calicdan’s single plated two runs to tie it at 3. Calicadan eventually scored on Ethan Lopez’s sacrifice fly.
But the Buckeyes tied it at 4 on Brady Cherry’s solo homer in the fifth. They went ahead on Pohl’s sacrifice fly and Zach Dezenzo’s RBI single.
The ’Bows closed to 6-5 on a Ethan Lopez’s RBI groundout in the ninth. But with the potential tying run on third, pinch hitter Logan Pouelsen struck out swinging to end the game.
UH’s Scotty Scott went 2-for-5, his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
